Afghan Student and Scholar Support

Supporting those at risk

In 2021, during the crisis in Afghanistan, the ASU President's Office established a special program of support for students and scholars/faculty who were at risk and had to leave Afghanistan. Afghan senior scholars came to ASU to teach and participate in research and 67 Afghan women students were also offered full support to continue their undergraduate or graduates studies which had been interrupted. ASU is also continuing to host Afghan Fulbright scholars and other students, as well. This section provides information on these students and scholars and what they are doing at ASU as well as background to this major university-wide initiative.

Arizona State University has taken the lead in helping refugees start or continue their higher education no matter where they are in the world. Through programs, projects and initiatives, ASU meets refugees where they are to offer resources, support, tools and courses to help them pursue higher education in as conventional a mode as possible. ASU also plays a key role in helping refugees adjust to their new life, even if they are not pursuing higher education, through initiatives and partnerships that help them navigate everyday life in a new land.
