Helping refugees move forward

Over the past twenty years, hundreds of students with refugee backgrounds have studied at ASU and are moving forward in their professions. In recent years, ASU has made a concerted effort to attract and support students and scholars who have had to flee their homelands. In 2021/2022, the focus has been on support for Afghan and Ukrainian students and scholars as one aspect of making all ASU campuses more "refugee-friendly". Some of their stories are represented here.

Video from a Milken Institute session, "Unexpected Journeys: Young Afghan Women Refugees Share Their Stories" In this session, we hear stories from five of those young women; of the family and friends they left behind, of the uncertainties of their futures, and of their service to fellow Afghans as interpreters, service volunteers, and educators, and to hear what they hope to achieve in their new life in the US.
